Co-Founders Craig Shepherd and Diana Imbert-Hodges met during their time as classmates at Fordham Law School.

Diana, the daughter of immigrants, and Craig, the son a formerly-incarcerated parent, both recognized the lack of legal literacies in their own upbringings and sought out to do something. What began as lunchroom conversations in 2019 grew into Defying Legal Gravity.

We do this work in deep community with countless students, teachers, stakeholders, and others committed to correcting the imbalances that permeate legal systems.
